Puno Uros Taquile Amantani

TITICACA Puno Uros TaquileAmantani Among Peru’s many wonders, Lake Titicaca is high on the must-see list. It is the highest navigable lake in the world. Its inhabitants are also very unique. The Uros live on a floating island made out of reeds in the middle of the lake, which they call kotsunya meaning the “town of the lake .”

They have been living there since well before the reign of the Incas. Some theorize that they immigrated here directly from Polynesia. There are other famous islands, too, such as Taquile and Amantani. The first famous and extensive lakeside civilization was that of the Taiwanaco. Their culture and origin remain lost in the mists of time, but evidence of their presence can be seen all around the lake.
