The Historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu covers an área of 32,592 Hectáreas. It is also known as the citidel of Machu Picchu. It is the culmination of Inca engineering and art and architecture.
Machu Picchu, which actually means “old mountain”, is a fortress constructed during the Imperium of the Incas. It is an architectural jewel, the most important one left to us by the Incas. Not only is it the face of Peru to the world, it is also a nature reserve and park where diverse flora and fauna are protected. And not only that. The views that can be seen from Machu Picchu are incredible, the natural beauty unforgettable. Machu Picchu was planned and built by Incan architects who knew how to work in harmony with nature. Our one day trip to Machu Picchu begins bright and early in the morning.

Itinerari Machu Picchu
We will head high up above Cusco from where you can look back and see her beauty. There are 2 train stations from which you can catch the train to Machu Picchu -- Poroy and Ollantaytambo. Poroy is only 25 minutes outside of Cusco. Ollantaytambo is an hour and a half from Cusco. Along the way you will lots of typical Andean communities and houses made of adobes ( mud and straw bricks ), with roofs made of straw.
If you get on the train at Poroy, you will pass through the pretty little cow town of Anta. Next is the town of Huarocondo, famous for its tender local pork dish called lechon, which is baked whole in a special oven. Then it is down into the magnificent Sacred Valley of the Incas, where the train stops at Ollantaytambo to pick up the rest of the passengers heading to Machu Picchu. After Ollantaytambo, the valley gets narrower and becomes a canyon. The river flows faster. We´ll see the village of Piscacucho, and go by kilometer 82, where the famous 4 day- 3 night hike of the ancient Inca trail begins. There will be Incan ruins visible all along the way. Chachabamba, Choquesuysuy, Wiñaiwaina. As we get closer to Machu Picchu, the ruins become more numerous.
Machu Picchu was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. Today it is considered to be a relic, and one of the wonders of the world. This year, the 100th anniversary of the re-discovery of Machu Picchu, is a great time to come visit and celebrate with us. On our tour of Machu Picchu we will visit all of the most important sites, such as: The Temple of the Sun, who is the supreme god of the Incas; the Intiwatana, a stone measuring device used to define the exact time of the change of season, which the Incas employed to determine planting and harvest times; the Intiwatana is also an energy center and a sacred place, as many who visit the Intiwatana receive a burst of energy; The Temple of the Condor which is dedicated to that great bird who,in Incan cosmology, connected the two worlds-- Uk'u pacha(the world below) and Hanan pacha (the world above).
No one knows exactly what the function of Machu Picchu was, but for many it certainly is a mysterious place. Recent modern investigations propose that it was an outpost of penetration into the jungle, and that it fulfilled different political, religious, social, and economic functions. After touring Machu Picchu, we will return to Aguas Calientes, eat lunch, and later board a train bound for Cusco. Returning to Cusco at night is always a pretty sight, as we’ll see the whole city all lit up.
